LinkedIn Automation and Cold Outreach Statistics 2026
There's no shortage of outreach benchmarks, but many of them get quoted without a source, a date, or a definition of "reply." Every number on this page links to the study it came from, says who published it and when, and is reported the way the source reported it. Where two studies disagree, we show both and explain why.
Key takeaways
- About 1 in 4 cold LinkedIn connection requests gets accepted. Expandi measured 28.5% across 13.2M requests, and Belkins measured 26%.
- LinkedIn replies are more common than cold email replies, but notes on connection requests are working less well. Expandi saw replies to connection notes fall from 3.5% to 2.2% in 12 months, while replies to post-connection messages held at 10.4%.
- "Average cold email reply rate" depends on how you count. Published figures range from 0.45% (Belkins, replies ÷ all sends, auto-replies excluded) to 3.43% (Instantly) to 4.5% (Hunter). Sales.co found that 53.7% of raw replies were automated.
- Adding a channel helps. In Saleshandy's 2026 data, email + LinkedIn roughly doubled the positive reply rate of email alone, and email + call reached 2.5x. Yet 99% of sequences were still email-only.
- AI in sales is mainstream, but results vary. Salesforce says 87% of sales orgs use AI and 54% of sellers have used agents. Gartner predicts agents will outnumber sellers 10 to 1 by 2028, yet fewer than 40% of sellers will say agents improved their productivity.
- Deliverability improved in 2025, but Microsoft is still the hardest inbox. Validity puts global inbox placement at 87.2% overall versus 77.4% at Microsoft.

Why the reply-rate numbers disagree: the denominator differs. Belkins divides unique human replies by every email sent. Instantly, Hunter and Saleshandy report platform-wide reply rates, and Sales.co shows how much automated replies inflate raw counts. Compare your own numbers to a benchmark that measures the same way.

What this means for your outreach
- Benchmark against your own segment. Industry swings LinkedIn acceptance from under 20% to about 40%, and company size swings cold email replies about 3x.
- Put the effort into the conversation after the connection. Message replies after acceptance are holding steady, while note replies are falling.
- Count replies the strict way. Strip auto-replies and judge campaigns on positive replies per 1,000 sends.
- Add a second channel before adding volume. The multichannel data above consistently shows that combining email with LinkedIn or calls beats email alone.
- Fix authentication and list hygiene first. The big mailbox providers now enforce sender requirements at volume.

Methodology
We collected these statistics between September 30 and October 1, 2026 from public reports, press releases and official provider documentation. Every URL above was opened and checked against the figure quoted. We only included numbers the source states directly. We didn't round, combine or derive figures, except where a multiplier (for example "1.7x") is the source's own wording. We preferred data from 2024–2026, and each entry gives the publisher and year, plus the data window where the source states one.
Most outreach benchmarks come from vendors analyzing their own users (Expandi, Belkins, Instantly, Hunter, Saleshandy, Sales.co). They're useful, but they reflect each platform's customer mix and definitions, which is why reply rates vary so widely. Gartner and Salesforce figures are surveys or predictions and are labeled that way. Buzz has no affiliation with any source cited here, and none of these figures describe Buzz's own performance.
